It Takes Courage

August 25th, 2011 by Dr. Beth Golden

Courage is: Mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. Also suggests a quality of temperament enabling one to hold one’s own or keep up one’s morale when opposed or threatened.

Why is it that it often takes courage “to do” the right thing? It takes courage to apologize or be humble. Our human ego does not like admitting it could be wrong. That part of us that refuses to be humble does not realize that through humility comes peace and understanding. It takes the focus off of “me” and puts it onto “thee”. When we realize we are filled with love and light, suppressing that ego brings love and light to others.

It takes courage to make a decision and both begin and stay a course of action. Whether the action involves family, friends, career, education or spirit. Courage is the quality of knowing who you are and what you are called to do and taking strides in that direction when those of lesser imagination lasso you and try to slow you down. There is a Chinese Proverb: “Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.” Courage can be quiet. For example look a naysayer in the eye, give a gentle smile and nod, yet staying your course. One of my greatest motivations is when someone says, “You can’t do that.” Oh you do not know the depth of the river that runs through my soul. The river appears dark and still, yet steadily moves forward with the strength of its predestined course.

It takes knowing who you are in a particular time in your life…as our purposes and responsibilities change and unfold. When you have awoken to your connection with the God Source, when the spark of your calling becomes ignited, you are better able to relax into the flow…knowing that “each moment of every day you draw to yourself exactly the people, energies and resources which help you to realize your dream, your purpose on earth.” And all is brought into your existence with love, light and goodness. It is then you can laugh in the face of adversity and watch with anticipation as the story unfolds. Courage comes from a deep conviction of the heart… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

It certainly does…thanks for the conscious boost. Sometimes it helps to be reminded of that. Somehow it makes it easier to persevere.
